Wednesday, July 22, 2026 - President William Ruto has directed Samuel Muchina Nyagah, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate who lost the Ol Kalou by-election, to oversee the implementation of ongoing government projects in the constituency.
Muchina disclosed the assignment on Tuesday, July 21, after meeting the Head of State at State House, just days after the hotly contested poll.
He said the President assured him that all key development
initiatives in Ol Kalou would continue regardless of the election outcome.
“I am pleased to inform the residents of Ol Kalou that the President assured me the following key projects will proceed and be completed for the benefit of our people, and I will personally supervise their implementation,” Muchina stated.
Among the projects are 36 electrification schemes across the constituency, housing for vulnerable families, and borehole construction in each ward.
He also confirmed the continuation of the university
project, completion of JM Hospital to Level 5 status, as well as the
constituency stadium and road works already underway.
Muchina emphasized that his new role is not political but developmental.
“These projects are not about politics; they are about the future of Ol Kalou.
“I have accepted the responsibility of closely supervising
their progress,” he added.
Muchina was defeated in the July 16 by-election by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau, who garnered 35,440 votes against his 5,450.
The government’s rollout of several projects during the
campaign had drawn criticism from the opposition, which accused the State of
using public resources to sway voters.
