Suspects arrested in counterfeit fertilizer crackdown (PHOTOs)

Sunday, July 26, 2026 - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have intensified their crackdown on a suspected counterfeit fertilizer syndicate, arresting three more suspects and recovering approximately 3,500 bags of assorted suspected fake fertilizer in Uasin Gishu County.

According to the DCI, the arrests were made following an intelligence-led operation by detectives from the DCI Headquarters Operations Action Team (OAT) in the Kabenes area of Soy Sub-County.

The suspects have been identified as Rose Chemeli, the owner of the premises where the suspected counterfeit fertilizer was stored, Vincent Kibet, and Elias Kipkoech.

During a search of the premises, detectives recovered around 3,500 bags of assorted fertilizer believed to be counterfeit.

The recovered products have since been secured as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations.

The three suspects remain in police custody as they undergo processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, the DCI said investigations are still underway, with detectives pursuing additional persons of interest believed to be part of the wider criminal network behind the manufacture and distribution of the suspected counterfeit fertilizer.
