President RUTO fires back at SIFUNA over pledge to allocate Affordable Housing units to police officers if the Linda Mwananchi movement wins the 2027 General Election.

Monday, September 14, 2026 - President William Ruto has dismissed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s pledge to allocate Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) units to police officers if the Linda Mwananchi movement wins the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Kisumu on Monday, September 14, Ruto said his administration had already set aside 20,000 houses for police officers and accused Sifuna and his allies of lacking the capacity to debate housing policy.

“I hear you saying that you will give the Affordable Housing units to the police.

“Let me give you the facts: we have already allocated 20,000 houses to the police.

“We are already ahead; you don’t understand anything, my friends. Go and discuss other things; you have no capacity to discuss housing,” Ruto said.

Sifuna had made the promise during a Linda Mwananchi rally at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi on Sunday, praising police for providing security.

“I want to make a promise to our police officers: when we, as Linda Mwananchi, take over the leadership, after removing the housing levy, we will give the houses that Ruto has built to our police officers so that they can live in them,” he said.

The clash adds to weeks of tension between the two leaders over the housing project.

On July 21, Sifuna mocked the practicality of multi‑storey units in Western Kenya, joking that residents could not live in houses where chickens were excluded.

“Tell me, boss, how will your chicken get to the 12th floor?” he posed.

Ruto hit back, questioning the logic of opposing housing on such grounds.

“You are telling us not to build affordable housing because chickens cannot be taken to the 17th floor.

“How foolish do you think we are?” he quipped.
