Comedian Dr. OFWENEKE blasts Kenyan content creators mocking Luhyia culture for social media views – “Use Your Own Community”

Friday, July 24, 2026 - Kenyan comedian and media personality Bush Sande, popularly known as Dr. Ofweneke, has called out a growing trend on social media where creators rely on negative stereotypes about the Luhya community to chase views and engagement.

In a strongly worded video posted on Instagram on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Ofweneke urged content creators to stop turning the Luhya community into fodder for viral jokes.

He argued that while comedy often borrows from everyday life, repeatedly targeting one tribe with ridicule is not only lazy but also harmful.

“There is something that has come to my attention, and if I don’t speak about it, it will continue.

“If you want to trend using a certain tribe or stereotypical jokes, please use your own community,” he said.

Ofweneke noted that countless TikTok clips and skits portray Luhya men, women, and cultural practices in a negative light, rarely celebrating anything positive.

He questioned why the community had become an easy target whenever creators wanted quick online traction.

The comedian emphasized that every community deserves respect and that cultural differences should not be weaponized for entertainment.

“If it’s about Luhya men, Luhya women, Luhya weddings or Luhya culture, please leave us alone to talk about our culture,” he added.
