WAIGURU slams CS DUALE over ‘deeply regrettable’ remarks about Kikuyus after UDA humiliation in Ol Kalou by-election

Friday, July 24, 2026 - Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has strongly condemned Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over remarks he made in a viral video following the Ol Kalou by‑election, where the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) suffered a humiliating defeat.

In a statement released on Friday, July 24, Waiguru described Duale’s comments as “deeply regrettable”

“The ethnic profiling remarks made by CS Aden Duale in response to the Ol Kalou by‑election are deeply regrettable.

“It is both overly simplistic and dangerous to reduce the government’s political challenges to tribal prejudice, especially when this very Kikuyu community stood with us so overwhelmingly in the past,” Waiguru said.

The governor urged Duale to exercise restraint, citing his long political career and senior role in government.

She further demanded an apology to Mt. Kenya residents, stressing that his words were “wholly unacceptable.”

“Given your stature and long experience in politics, such utterances are wholly unacceptable. An apology is not only necessary; it is owed to the people of Kenya,” she added.

Waiguru also cautioned politicians against divisive rhetoric ahead of the 2027 General Election, insisting that Kenya’s unity must never be undermined.

Her remarks came after Duale, speaking in Somali dialect at an event in Northern Kenya, likened the Kikuyu community to “hyenas” opposing Ruto’s re‑election bid.
